Unweaving I

August 20, 2020

Jacquard woven piece/performance
Materials: Wool.
Size: 150x280 cm
Year of production: 2019

Photographer of the work: Karina N. Presttun

In the society where there is an overflow of things and objects; what does it mean to be an artist? How to define what is handmade? How to work with materials sustainably not losing the possibility to develop new ideas? Unweaving is a very slow process. I have used many days producing the art piece that at the end, was woven on an industrial loom. By disassembling it thread by thread, I also contemplate on the myth of creation: at then end the weave is like the reality we live in. If you pull enough threads out of the warp or weft, it will collapse.
