Purple chasuble for Flakstad Church

I was pleased to work on a commission for designing and weaving purple chasuble for Flakstad Church in Northern Norway. I have chosen the motif of interlaced thorny branches on the main surface. The middle part is a gradient going from silver to white with a dark purple cross and a symbol of fish. Norwegian designer Siv Støldal did the seam work. The inside of the chasuble is lined with silk purple silk satin.

"Dispersing" Public art comission for Narvik School

This is one of three works I made for Narvik School in 2021. “Dispersing” is a jacquard woven piece consisting of two pieces one measuring 1,3x4,3m and another installed behind 1,8x1,8 m. The inspiration was a collection of selfies taken by my daughter that was 13 years old at the moment when images were taken. I wanted to reflect on the fragility of being a teenager: the face is dispersing both in colour and the image itself. The background behind is inspired by aurora borealis that is common to see in the northern hemisphere. Technically, I had to take care of the wall's acoustic properties and find a clever way of joining the woven pieces together as the width of the woven surface was 1,5 for each panel. The artwork was installed in January 2022.

"Twins" Public art comission for Narvik School

This is one of three works I made for Narvik School in 2021. “Twins” is a jacquard woven piece measuring 2,1x3m. The inspiration was a collection of selfies taken by my daughter that was 13 years old at the moment when images were taken. She painted her face in these tattoo-like brushes writing: “smile” and “live” on her cheeks. I made several sketches and worked on the composition and bindings of the colour fields. Technically, I had to take care of the wall's acoustic properties and find a clever way of joining the woven pieces together as the width of the woven surface was 1,5 for each panel. The artwork was installed in January 2022.

"In the Schoolyard" Public art comission for Narvik School

In 2021 I got the proposal to develop some ideas for the main hall in Narvik Public School. I made this big woven piece called "In the Schoolyard" for the back wall that measures 2,6x9,7 m. The inspiration was this one moment that I could observe while visiting the school in February 2021. The kids were standing outside in this white snow background, with some trees in the distance—one frozen moment of their life. Later I made several sketches and worked on the composition and bindings of the colour fields. I intentionally separated red, green and blue channels and moved them slightly to get the 3D effect when observing the piece from a distance. I also wanted to replicate big windows from the side of the hall and play with colour, so I did blue, green and pink versions as if you watch the scene through coloured glass. Technically, I had to take care of the wall's acoustic properties and find a clever way of joining the woven pieces together as the width of the woven surface was 1,5 for each panel. The artwork was installed in December 2021.

Pulpit covers for Flekkerøy Church

I had the pleasure to work on a commission for weaving pulpit covers for Flekkerøy Church. The design was given, so I am not the one that has drawn the symbols. I have done the weaving part. The pulpits are woven in four colours with big contrast in drawings. For the project, I have used Norwegian wool. The size of each is 32x37cm. The images were woven on TC-2 loom.
